Classes

Past Tense offers a variety of class formats and levels, allowing new and longtime students to progress at their own pace under the supervision of certified instructors. The following is a brief description of each format. Some students find that one style suits them better while others enjoy the benefits of a more integrated approach.

Ahh-some
These restorative classes blend moving meditations and restorative poses, typically done on the floor, to help the body heal, release and recharge. You will leave feeling relaxed, and refreshed. Open Level.

Beginner Yoga: Level 1
Our level 1 classes focus on poses with attention to the fundamentals and alignment. This provides new-to-yoga students the opportunity to gain confidence, strength and flexibility and intermediate practitioners the opportunity to fine-tune their practice. It’s also a great opportunity for students recovering from injuries to ease back in and learn appropriate modifications.

Core Power
Fire up your core with a vinyasa yoga practice that includes asanas and pilates moves to strengthen your center. Open Levels.

Fuse Pilates
This class blends elements of pilates, yoga, dance, the Lotte Berk method and core stability training for a low impact but high intensity workout set to upbeat music.

Happy Hour
Start the weekend off right with an energizing workout on Friday evenings and walk out with a yoga high that will keep you going all weekend long. This class is not recommended for beginners.

Hot Yoga
This vigorous level two/three vinyasa class offers a flowing, dynamic form of yoga that connects pranayama and asana in a room heated between 85 and 90 degrees. This is an advanced class. If uncertain about whether it’s appropriate for you, please see an instructor.

Let It Flow
This vinyasa style class offers a flowing, dynamic form of yoga that connects the breath or pranayama to the movement.

Power Lunch
This hour-long class is an energetic and revitalizing experience will carry you through the day. Better than that cup of coffee, it’s good to the last drop.

Slow Flow
Let go with a mellow flow followed by longer-held, restorative poses that challenge the body and then allow you to stretch, open, lengthen and relax. Open Level.

Strong Hold
This athletic, hatha-style class features static poses that builds strength, flexibility and endurance.

Specials

Cosmic Class
This monthly class offers a practice that will teach you how to use the energy of the heavens to set an intention and build for the future.

Date Night
Your yoga practice is just too good not to share so now both you and your significant other can enjoy the benefits of this fun, vinyasa-style class. Don’t worry if you have a regular practice and your S.O. doesn’t. All levels welcome. And, after you’ve worked, stretched and relaxed on the mat head to Radius for a Date Night discount on dinner. It’s enough to make you say, “Bliss me, you fool.”

Foundations of Flow
Great for both beginners and experienced students, this monthly class will break down the vinyasa sequence.Through demonstration and practice, the class will go through half and full chaturanga, transitioning through to your heart opener and lifting up and back to down dog.

Virgin Yoga
This periodically-held workshop introduces students to the different styles of yoga and the basic poses so he or she can enjoy a Level 1 class and know just what a Down Dog is. 

YogAmore: Singles Yoga
Tired of the bar scene? Come discover what can happen when you mingle after a fun hour of all-levels yoga with other soulful singles. Move your body with an hour long yoga class led by DC-based dating & relating coach and Past Tense yoga instructor Jeffrey Platts. After class, enjoy a few fun ice-breaker relating games to help keep you in the flow as you mingle. Refreshments and drinks will be served after class.
